Directed by the genius Davide Rivelmorre, "Manon Lescaut" was Puccini's third opera and a great success at the prestigious Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Spain in June 2018. Based on the novel "Manon Lescaut" by Abb Prvot (1697-1763), this was the seventh volume of the author's autobiographical novel "Recollections and Adventures of a Nobleman. A pioneer of the femme fatale (woman who destroys men/woman of destiny), it has captured the hearts of people around the world since its publication in 1731. The popularity of this opera can be seen in the fact that there were several operas based on the same theme as Puccini, including Aubert's "Manon Lescaut," Massenet's "Manon," and Puccini's "Manon. Puccini clearly depicts the unrestrained and tragic nature of Manon with dramatic development and beautiful music.In this video, Ukrainian opera singer Lyudmila Monastirska plays Manon, the uninhibited female protagonist who lived and died for love, and Gregory Kunde, a leading dramatic tenor who is sought after in theaters around the world, plays the passionate De Groot. The production is directed by the prodigious Davide Revelmore. The setting is Ellis Island, where the U.S. government immigration facility was built in 1892. However, the opera opens in 1954, the year Ellis Island was closed, with a scene in which an elderly man, De Groot, reminisces. The conductor is Emmanuel Villaume, making his debut at the Gran Teatre del Liceu. A co-production between the Teatre San Carlo and the Gran Teatre del Liceu. King International
